Dear Woodfordians
We’ve had a great response to the mailout about The Planting and it’s been a big gee-up for us to begin planning how we might bring it back next year. We want you to come along and join us in re-imagining the Planting, get stuck into some working bees and hear our dreams for The Conservatree.
You’re invited to Woodfordia for what we’re whimsically calling The Sprouting, on Queensland’s Labour Day long weekend, in less than 3 weeks. (Saturday 29 & Sunday 30 April). Conveniently, The Woodford Folk Club is on the same weekend – you’re invited. And Monday 1st May is a public holiday.
We are also emboldened by your enthusiasm to really get started on a project that we are calling “The Conservatree.” And as is generally the case here at Woodfordia, enthusiasm is contagious, and the plan has grown somewhat during our Lake Gkula Camping (which has had some really good feedback from our guests.)
At The Sprouting, we hope many of you will join us on three short working bees to help us win back the initiative we lost during The Great Pause (don’t mention the c-word). We need volunteer help to attack the glycine (Neonotonia wightii) which is killing many of our trees, plant a couple of areas around our new Amphigrande, harvest some of our bamboo forest which has finally matured and a couple of other smaller projects. There will be plenty of merriment and time to connect with your fellow Woodfordians.
Importantly we want your help to brainstorm the future of The Planting next year.
There’s a programme of events we’ve planned at the end of this email:
